General Information

Drop-off & Pick-up
Direction of Travel: Please see the map here and below.

Pull Forward: For efficiency and to minimize congestion, please pull as far forward as possible when entering the car rider line. This allows more cars to access the drop-off and pick-up zones.

Students - Stay in the Car: For safety reasons, please keep your children inside the car until you have reached the area in front of the brick dumpster wall, and staff has signaled cars to unload.

Adults - Remain in Your Car: It is important that you stay in your car throughout the drop-off and pick-up process. If you need to help your child buckle up, please proceed to the parking lot and park your car. You can then safely exit your vehicle to assist your child.

No Parking Lot Access or Walk-ups: Please note that parking in the school parking lot and walking up to drop-off or pick-up your child is not allowed. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping the car rider line efficient and safe.

Timing: The drop-off line runs from 7:15-7:40. Please do not drop kids off earlier. Pick-up line runs from 2:30-2:50

Where will students go each morning when they report to school?

7:15 - 7:25am

  • Students not eating breakfast at school will report to the gym.  They will sit with their class and each class will be spread out from others.
  • Students eating breakfast at school will report to the cafeteria and will proceed to their classrooms when they have finished eating.
  • Breakfast concludes at 7:40am each morning.

7:25 - 7:30am - All students will proceed to their classrooms.

7:40am - Students are counted tardy.

What are the procedures if my child attends ½ day Pre-K?

  • Sunset Hill is fortunate to have  the option of half day Pre-K.  If your child is in Mrs. Reed’s morning or afternoon Pre-K class, you will follow the procedures above and below (see traffic flow) with the car drop-off process in the Green entrance. You will also pick your child up in the Green entrance.  You will stay in  double lanes and in your cars where your children will be brought out to you.
  • If you need to drop off medication or need help from the office, you will enter the blue or yellow entrance and  park in the front parking lot and access the office from there.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety and timely arrival of all students. Your adherence to these guidelines will help streamline the car rider process for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school administration.

Traffic Flow

Aerial map of Sunset Hill Elementary showing traffic flow for drop-off and pick-up. Green arrows mark the car line route entering from Sara Road on the south, splitting into two lanes before merging into one lane along the east side of the building. Yellow and black arrows indicate the staff and bus parking route entering from the west. Blue arrows direct FS and daycare traffic to a separate loop on the southeast side. A %22Do Not Enter%22 sign is shown at the southwest corner.

✴️ Beginning Monday, August 25th, when entering the drop-off line, please approach the school from the south and make a right turn only. This means no left turns off of Sara Rd. This is for both green and yellow car rider lines.

✴️ Also, beginning Monday, August 25th, our Pre-K car riders will move to the Yellow Entrance when dropping off and picking up. If your Pre-K child has an older sibling, you may drop them off and pick them up together at the Yellow Entrance. The morning drop-off line for the yellow entrance will form no sooner than 7:15 to allow buses to safely turn into the drive. The afternoon pick-up line will form at 2:30.

When you enter the Yellow Drive, please remain in the right-hand lane only. The left lane will be reserved for staff reporting to work and buses. The Pre-K line will form at the orange cone.  Buses will be in front. We will unload the buses first. The Pre-K teachers will come out, move the cone, and then direct cars to pull up for unloading. Pre-K teachers and paras will be there to help you. We will repeat this process in the afternoon.

Thank you for working with us to help our drop-off procedures run safely, smoothly, and efficiently! 🌄

Dismissal (PM)

Students have been divided based on their grade level or dismissal type.  This reduces the number of students in one location.  We use the dismissal program, SafeID Car Rider Plus (see below).  All students will have a numbered backpack tag to ensure student safety.

  • Bus riders will dismiss at the front of the building and will be escorted to their bus.

  • Car Riders:

    • PreK - 4th Grade will be dismissed from the east side of the building. Please form 2 lines in the GREEN entrance, mirroring the pattern from morning drop-off.

    • DDPK (Mrs. Simmons) and Functional Skills (Mr. Smith and Mrs. Massey) will be dismissed from the west side (BLUE entrance) of the building.

    • Pick up vehicles will have a hanging rear view mirror tag with numbers that match their students backpack tag. The hanging tag will be picked up at Open House and the backpack tags will be put on the first day of school. Students will go out to their car and will be checked off by our system.

  • Bronco Club students will report to the cafeteria.

  • Daycare students will be dismissed from the west side (front) of the building.

  • To ensure safety for all, parents will not be allowed to walk up to the building to pick their child up after school.

  • Any time your child is to go home differently than the teacher has been told, the office must be notified by 2:00pm.
